Paul Edwards
24 Years Old

August 27, 1959 to December 11, 1983

Paul Edwards, of Vallejo, California, joined the Army at the age of 17. He was a paratrooper in the 82 Airborne Division. He won trophies and medals for his athletic ability. He married and became the father of a beautiful little girl named Sunny Blue.

When he left the Army, Paul and his wife Tanya attended college in Fairfield, California. Paul immediately became a sports star. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers baseball organization and received an invitation from the San Francisco Giants wanting him to sign a professional baseball contract. Paul declined both teams, wanting to play baseball at the college level for one more year before becoming a professional. Then he was murdered.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE MURDER

Paul Edwards, 24, of Vallejo, California, went out for the evening on December 11, 1983, and was never seen again. Two weeks later, his body was found in Lake Berressa in Napa, California. He was gagged and bound and had been beaten. The autopsy revealed that he died by drowning, so he was alive when he was thrown into the lake.

Edwardo Garcia was arrested on other charges and served 10 years in prison. With the help of DNA testing, Garcia was proven to be Paul's killer. He pleaded guilty to first degree murder. A judge ruled that the 10 years Garcia had already served would count as 10 years served concurrently for Paul's murder. At least three others were involved with the murder; they have not been identified.
