Karen Gregory, of Gulfport, Florida, was very athletic; she loved bike riding, swimming, concerts, movies and live stage shows. Her favorite pastimes were cooking and reading. Her hometown was Menands, New York.

Karen graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, with a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree. She was a graphic artist with a firm in Florida.

Karen loved all kinds of people. She had many, many friends who felt the very same about her. She would do anything for her friends. She hated any kind of gossip.

Karen's favorite nickname for her mother was "mommie." Her "mommie" misses her more and more each day.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE MURDER

Karen Gregory, 36, of Gulfport, Florida, was murdered in her home around midnight after having dinner with a friend. George Lewis was waiting for her in the dark. He tortured her with his knife, stabbed her 21 times, cut her throat, then raped her. Her scream was heard more than two blocks away - more than six neighbors heard her scream, but no one called police. Karen was found by a neighbor two days after she was murdered. She had bled to death. Had someone called the police, she may have lived.

George Lewis was convicted of first degree murder, and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison with no chance for parole for 25 years.
