Jamie Lynnette Hulsey
29 Years Old

July 13, 1968 to April 4, 1998

Jamie Lynnette Hulsey of Carona, California was the third of five children. She had one older sister and brother and two younger brothers. She had lots of hobbies; she enjoyed tole painting, making flower arrangements and other types of crafts. She also liked sports; she was on a co-ed baseball team. After she graduated from high school, she went to cosmetology school and worked at it for a while. In 1989, Jamie and Gloria decided to go back to school to become a Pharmacy Technician. Jamie was head of her class even though she had to work full-time and go to school part-time. She was Valedictorian of our class. She worked two different jobs for a while before she became employed at Prescription Solutions at Cypress. In the three years that she worked there, she had three promotions.

Jamie was the type of person that everyone liked. She was quiet but she was always there if someone needed her or had a problem and they needed to talk to someone. She also had a distinctive giggle that everyone seemed to remember. She would always bring home stray animals, she just couldn't see them out there with no place to go. She had a very big heart. She always remembered everyone's birthday, anniversary, etc. She always sent a card that the words were from her heart. She always said, "I don't want to hurt anyone." When her sister needed someone to watch Danielle (her niece) and couldn't find anyone, Jamie would do it without a second thought. Jamie would also house-sit for her boss every year for 1 to 2 weeks. In 1995, Jamie bought her first brand new car, it was her pride and joy. When her younger brothers had problems, she would always talk to them even without me asking.

She was 26 years old when she decided it was time to try to live on her own. She rented an apartment with some of her friends, it lasted for awhile and then she returned back home. When she was at home, her room was always a disaster, but when she had her own apartment it was spotless. Sometimes I would laugh and think to myself, "Oh maybe I did do a good job after all." Jamie was always a very responsible person. Since I was a single parent, she has always helped me with the rent since she was 18 years old. And if there was something her younger brothers wanted or needed, she always found a way to get it for them. She was always a great help to me. She was always a very organized person, unlike me. We all have our faults, one of hers was she didn't like to cook. In 1996, she met Duane Lewis, and after dating for awhile, they became engaged. In 1998, they broke off the engagement, things just weren't working out for them. That breakup and his jealousy ultimately lead to her death on April 4, 1998. Her last e-mail to a co-worker was she was going with him because she didn't want to hurt his feelings.

Jamie Lynnette Hulsey was drowned in a motel room in Buena Park by her ex-fiance on April 4, 1998. Duane Lewis called the police after he did it and confessed. It was said he had a fetish for hurting women and on January 10, 1999 they had enough evidence to convict him of first degree murder.

He is currently serving time in the Orange County Jail until he is moved to a prison.
