Dion P. McGranahan
24 Years Old

September 19, 1959 to February 26, 1984

Dion McGranahan of Toledo, Ohio was a loving son and responsible young man who had many friends. He was the oldest son in a family of six children. He had 2 older sisters, 1 younger sister and 2 younger brothers. He was raised and educated in the Catholic faith. When the family relocated to the New Orleans, LA area, Dion was 19 years old. He was working at a local rubber factory. He decided that rather than relocate with the family, he would try making it on his own in Toledo. Of his many hobbies, his favorite was motorcycling. He also enjoyed sports and music. His major project at the time of his murder was restoring a 1957 Harley Davidson motorcycle, a task that is now being completed by his brother.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE MURDER

Larry Patterson was a convicted felon who was released from prison on August 4, 1981 after serving a 4 to 25 year sentence for aggravated robbery. On February 26, 1984, Patterson walked into a local neighborhood tavern and shot Dion McGranahan without provocation. He stated he was looking for another man.

Patterson was convicted of aggravated murder. He was sentenced to life in prison on September 19, 1984. Patterson had a parole hearing in May of 1998 and was denied parole (thanks to the Parole Block Program). He is presently incarcerated at the Lorair Correction Institution and his case was continued until May of 2008.
