Charles W. Dawson
41 Years Old

April 22, 1961 to July 9, 2002

My son Chuck was 41 years old when he was murdered. He was a loving son, brother, dad, husband and granddad. He left a beautiful grandson Bryce who loved him so much and who talks to him a lot. Chuck left three sisters, a daughter, a mother and a wife who are devastated. We miss him so much.

Chuck loved Harley motorcycles and said there was no greater feeling than riding with the wind and feeling so free. Chuck always told his mother he loved her more than anyone. He loved the Lord. His wife saw him mowing the grass at a church not far from home and asked him if he had a job at the church since he did yard work as his job. Chuck said “No, when the grass needs cutting, I stop and do it. I’m just working for the Lord.”

Chuck was a great friend to those he loved.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE MURDER

My brother Chuck was asleep in his home with his wife on the night of July 9, 2002 when he was awakened by the sound of gunfire, which he thought was fireworks. He got up to see what was going on. At this time, it was 1:30 AM. He walked to the kitchen and realized it was gunfire. Chuck fell to the floor, telling his wife to get down. He crawled to the front door, stood up to look out the window and he was shot in the upper chest and died within 20 minutes. The killer was 19 years old and killed my brother Chuck by mistake.

My brother did not know his killer Alexander Knight “A.J.” He was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in the Mississippi State Prison. He had a previous gun and drug possession charge in California.
