Ashley Dawn Wax was from Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Ashley was a beautiful, vivacious young lady. At the time of her murder, she was a sophomore in high school. She was a Level 6 competing gymnast and belonged to her high school’s performing dance group.

Ashley was a beloved daughter, a big sister (her brother Trevor was 7 years old when she died), a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin, a friend.

Ashley had hopes and dreams...she had her whole life ahead of her.

SHE SHOULD HAVE HAD THE CHANCE………

1) To be the 2005 State Vault Champion in gymnastics
2) To continue to excel in dance with the Las Cruces High School Performing Dance
3) To get her driver’s license
4) To graduate from high school
5) To go to college
6) To be a Marine Biologist, and work with dolphins
7) To be a mother

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE MURDER

Ashley Dawn Wax was murdered in her hometown, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Ashley was murdered by David Garcia, a 16 year old boy she had been dating. Because she decided not to continue a relationship with him, he shot and killed her in the front yard of her family home. David Garcia was charged with 1st degree murder (firearm enhancement); false imprisonment; aggravated assault (deadly weapon) (firearm enhancement); larcency (firearm); unlawful carrying of a handgun by a person under 19; aggravated burglary (armed after entering) (firearm enhancement). After 2 1/2 years of waiting to go to trial, in a plea agreement, David Garcia pled guilty to all of the charges in exchange for a ‘cap’ or maximum of 29 1/2 years as a possible sentence. Sentencing has been set for September 28, 2007. The family hopes and prays that the Judge will impose the maximum sentence.
