A DIFFERENT LIFE

As I kneel down on my son’s grave
It’s been many years now since he went away.
My life is different now
But the sun still rises… The birds still sing…
Our friendly visitors come and go
Summer, fall, winter and spring.

Families gather on happy occasions
Celebrating birthday parties and graduations,
Then on December 31st you’ll hear their cheers
Everyone welcoming a brand new year.

For some of us though… life just goes on…
As hard as it may be, for our families we must be strong.
Missing our loved ones every single day
Struggling with acceptance
On the why and how they were taken away.

Yes… it is a different life now
One we’ve learned to accept and embrace
Getting through the days somehow
Knowing new challenges we must face.

We can’t expect others to fully understand
Unless they’ve been struck by fate’s cruel hand.
To them… understanding we must now give
As it is a different life… We must now live.

Our chapter is a support group for ALL family members (not just parents) and friends of those who have lost a loved one through violence. Our goal is to provide emotional support and companionship, including accompaniment for survivors who must attend court proceedings.

There really are no words to describe the devastation and scope of feelings for those of us who have lost a loved one through violence. It changes your life. You often feel as though no one can understand. But here, at the Sacramento Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children (POMC), you will find people that care about you and will have a good grasp of at least some of the things you are going through. We will support you and will be here for you when you need us. You will NEVER need to apologize for your feelings.

We hold monthly meetings and provide a telephone network of support.
